Welcome to Year 5

We have planned some great learning experiences and this page gives you an outline of the topics the children have and will be studying this year.

The staff in Year 5 this year are:

Miss Farr 5F class teacher; Miss Golding 5G class teacher

Mrs Whitworth (HLTA), Mrs Makin (TA) and Mrs Entwhistle (TA)


We teach a topic-based curriculum and these are the areas we will cover in Y5:


Autumn 1 – Does Everything That Goes Up, Always Come Down? (Science – Forces)

Autumn 2 – How Different Will You Be When You Are As Old As Your Parents? (Science–Human Life-Cycle)

Spring term 1 – Why Should Britain Be Ashamed Of Slavery? (History )

Spring term 2 – Why Should The Rainforests Matter To All Of Us? (Geography)

Summer term 1 – Who Were The Anglo Saxons? (History)

Summer term 2 – What Would An Astronaut See In Space? (Science)

For more information about your child’s learning, use the buttons below.

Our PE lessons this term are on Thursday aftternoon . Please ensure that your child has their kit in school – Black shorts, red/white T-shirt and black pumps – and that it is named. The children should also have an outdoor kit (jogging pants/leggings, trainers) Plasters must be provided to cover earrings or they must be removed.

Each week the children will be expected to learn their spellings; practise their times tables and read at least 3 times with an adult. They may also be set a topic based task which may include research work or making models.
