Welcome to Year 4
Welcome to the Autumn term!
We hope that you all enjoyed the summer break and are now looking forward to a year in Year 4. We have planned some great learning experiences and this letter gives you an outline of the topics the children will be studying this year and what you can do at home to help and encourage them to succeed.
The staff in Year 4 this year are:
Miss Morgan 4M class teacher; Miss Newbold 4N class teacher
Miss Travers (HLTA), Mrs Hodgkinson (TA) and Miss Spragg (TA)
We will be teaching a topic-based curriculum, these are the areas we will cover in Y4:
Autumn 1 – What happens to the food we eat?
Autumn 2 – How can we recreate the wonder of Ancient Egypt?
Spring term 1 – Why is the sound of music enjoyed by so many?
Spring term 2 – Why are most of the worlds’ rivers located by cities?
Summer term 1 – Who were the Romans and what did we learn from them?
Summer term 2 – Have we always looked like this?
Our PE lessons this term is Monday & Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has their kit in school – Black shorts, red/white T-shirt and black pumps – and that it is named. Our lesson on Wednesday will be outside so they will need a suitable jumper, tracksuit pants and trainers. This year the children in Y4 will have swimming lessons. We will give you more information nearer the time.
We will set weekly and termly homework throughout the year.
Each week the children will be expected to learn their spellings; practise their times tables and read at least 3 times with an adult.
Termly projects will be set to link with our topic. e.g. to make a model of the digestive system.
We hope this information has been useful and we look forward to meeting you at our Parents meeting later on this term. If you have any questions, please talk to one of the team who will be happy to help.
