Year 3

#FarnworthMatters

Meeting our pen pals

Just before Christmas we made a card for our pen pals and wrote a letter. Luckily for us, our pen pals had to come into our school for their Chester Zoo talk. This meant that we got to meet our pen pals! We had our reading buddy time with them and also had our golden time with them.

Chester Zoo visit

A member of staff came and talked to us about their mission ‘preventing extinction’. She told us about all the different jobs they have at the zoo. We were then split into groups where we got to look at animal x-rays and make a light bulb work (just one way to stop people killing animals).

Primary Stars

Primary Stars came into school and told us all about the type of work they do and the qualifications needed to get a job there.

A career talk

We all went onto an ambulance and had a look inside. We saw all the equipment used and the importance of cleaning it all. We had tomato sauce on our hands and saw how easy it was to spread by shaking hands with other people.

Warburtons Visit

We had Warburtons come in and tell us all about their company. We learnt the history of how the company started to how they’ve developed. An amazing fact we learnt was they make 10,000 loaves of bread an hour!

Grow your mindset Part 1

As part of our #FarnworthMatters project, we had a visit from the mindset girls. We looked at what a fixed and growth mindset is. Then we got some statements and had to decide if it was a fixed or growth mindset.

Geography – Making a model of Earth

Using play dough, we used the right colour play dough to show the inner core, outer core, mantle and then  the crust. Then we made the sea and land. We cut it half so that we could see what the inside of the earth looked like.

Making Soup

Year 3 made soup. We had to chop up our ingredients and mixed together to make vegetable soup. the majority of us loved the soup and had empty bowls! Even asking for more!

Spelling Work

Year 3 have tried to practise their spellings by making them with lollipop sticks and writing their spellings in a funky way.

Diwali

To celebrate Diwali, we did a dance to celebrate the festival of light.

Making a Periscope

As part of our topic on light, we looked at making a periscope so that we could use mirrors to see reflection working.

Stone Age Topic

During our Stone Age topic, we have looked at different artefacts and had a go at spear throwing. We researched what Stonehenge looked like and then tried to replicate it with biscuits. We created our own cave pictures using charcoal AND used pictures to help us write a diary entry as if we were alive in the Stone Age era.

Some of us extended our learning at home through creating models and artwork. What a busy half term!!!
