Welcome to Year 3
Dear Parent / Carers,
Welcome to Year 3. We are looking forward to a busy and exciting year. Here is some information to help you and your child during the first half term.
Year 3 Staff
There are two teachers in year 3; Mrs Brooks and Miss Wilson. Supporting us are Mrs Stoneley (HLTA) along with two TA’s. We will be working very closely together with our team to plan and create an interesting learning environment.
Our topics are based upon books-
Autumn Term: Stone Age Boy (a history topic) and Orion and the Dark (a science topic).
Spring Term: Street Beneath Our Feet (science topic) and Escape from Pompeii (a geography/ science topic)
Summer Term: Greek Myths (history/geography topic) and The Night Gardener (science topic)
At times we will enhance the children’s learning by inviting visitors in or going on trips.
P.E. will take place on a Thursday afternoon (indoor) with Rachel. Please make sure your children have the appropriate kit and that no jewellery is worn. Earrings should be taken out before your child comes to school or send in plasters to cover their ears.
Spellings– children will be given spellings weekly and will be tested every Friday.
Times tables – children are expected to know their 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 and will be having tests every week to ensure recall of these.
Reading – children will are expected to read at least three times a week at home and have their diary signed by an adult.
Maths – children will be given work, when appropriate to imbed what they have been learning in class.
Handwriting – children are expected to use joined up writing in Key Stage 2, practise sheets will be sent home.
Topic – activities will be sent home for you to do with your children relating to the topic that is being taught at school.
We hope that this information is useful and we look forward to the year ahead.
